First Look: Renault E-Space Concept is the 2030s French family car

We were at the world premiere of the Renault E-Space Concept at the 2026 Paris Motor Show and got a really close look at Renault’s vision for the future family car. Here’s everything that stood out for us.

    Design

The Renault E-Space concept has a friendly character to my eye, blending boxy proportions and softly rounded corners with design cues that recall earlier generations of the Espace. I feel it is one of the most interesting interpretations yet of what a family car could look like.

    Front

Angular, chain-link-like light signatures mark where the front fog lights would sit on a production version, adding a distinctive geometric touch to the lower bumper.

The broad lighting panel features layers of finely spaced, sculptural elements that remind me of architectural louvres, giving the E-Space’s nose depth while emphasising its width.

The Renault E-Space Concept has a distinctive one-box silhouette and a flowing windscreen making for a particularly clean appearance. The front is dominated by a wide U-shaped light strip and sports an illuminated Renault lozenge with a floating effect and a subtle pixel design.

    Side

A long, nearly level roof and expansive side glazing give the Renault E-Space concept a clean, spacious-looking silhouette, while large geometric wheels and sculpted lower bodywork keep it visually contemporary.

Doors: The E-Space concept pairs conventional front doors with rear-hinged coach doors, creating a broad, pillar-free opening that puts its lounge-like cabin on display.

The side profile is where the concept’s connection to the original Espace feels more obvious with the open greenhouse and large wheels that convey a planted stance. Renault tells us the rear-hinged coach doors would pose no major technical challenge for production, although commercial considerations make them unlikely to carry over.

    Rear

From behind, the Renault E-Space concept looks surprisingly low and broad in person, with its almost upright tail and wide rear window giving it a planted stance.

The concept deliberately keeps away from conventional SUV styling elements, with Renault positioning the E-Space as an alternative to both SUVs and saloons.

One of my favourite details is the curved trailing edge of the rear quarter window, where the floating rear pillar appears to connect visually with the roof spoiler.

Slim red light segments wrap around the lower corners of the dark tailgate panel, echoing the layered front lighting and framing an illuminated Renault badge.

    Interior

Officials hinted that a production model could offer a similarly extensive dashboard display layout, swivelling rear seats and a ceiling-mounted tablet holder for rear passengers to watch entertainment or join video conferences on the move.

We understand that the cabin design is further from production than the exterior, but several features remain feasible.

The Renault E-Space Concept takes the family-car idea in a modular direction, with six individual and identical seats arranged across three rows. We noticed the completely flat floor gives the cabin a lounge-like feel.

The seats can be arranged in different configurations, with the ability to rotate slightly for easier access. Some layouts can even create a more social space around a large table, but these may not be feasible in the production car.

The cabin follows Renault’s voiture à vivre philosophy and is all about maximizing interior space, versatility, and natural light, while not missing out on the latest tech

We also like the OpenR Panorama display, which curves across the full width of the cabin and visually replaces the traditional dashboard.

The OpenR Panorama display is 1,130 mm wide and 110 mm tall, and Renault says the system will appear on its future upper-range electric models, so this isn’t a show car gimmick.

The Renault E-Space Concept measures 4.70 metres (185.0 inches) long, 2.02 metres (79.5 inches) wide and 1.67 metres (65.7 inches) high, and rides on large 23-inch wheels.

The Renault E-Space Concept is an electric concept exploring the brand’s “futuREady” vision for its next-gen vehicles.

The model expert at the booth also told me they can come up with the production car in two years on receiving a go-ahead from the board.

A closely matched production model should lead Renault into the European electric MPV segment.
